What was the inspiration behind the nursery set?

From runways to interiors, deep blues have been everywhere this season. We wanted to create a nursery furniture set that would make a statement, differing from the muted tones and soft colour palettes found in traditional nurseries.

St Ives combines a striking deep blue colourway with oak finishes for a stylish look that’s at home in any contemporary space. So even though it’s a super bold look, the wood accents bring warmth to the set to give an inviting feel that will always welcome you home.

How would you style a St Ives nursery?

Although the striking blue colourway may seem a little daunting at first, there’s so many ways to style this set and let your personality shine through! For the St Ives photoshoot we went for a statement colour block wall with burnt orange and off-white accessories to pull everything together. By adding different textures with a large rug, wooden shutter blinds and soft throws, the look is completely softened to create a space that parent and baby will love to be in.

The St Ives blue is a super versatile colour that can be styled in all sorts of different ways. Whether you make it the main feature of the room and stand the furniture against white walls, or go crazy with bronze, orange, pink or green wallpaper prints, there are so many ways to create your dream nursery around the beautiful set.

What are your favourite accessories when styling a room?

I absolutely love all things interiors so it’s hard to choose! But when styling a nursery set, I do have a few staples that I usually include.

A large, soft rug –

Great if your room has wooden or lino flooring, a large neutral rug will add warmth and texture to your nursery. They’re also the perfect cushioning on tired feet, and for when your little one gets older and starts tottering around.

Wall prints –

Depending on the size of your room, adding a selection of prints to your walls will stop the nursery looking too plain and clinical. There are so many prints out there, from bold and graphic to subtle and sweet, and it’s a great way to inject a splash of colour without making it the main feature.

Shelving –

Practical and stylish, open shelving allows you to display all your baby’s treasures on your walls, from books and toys to photos and teddy bears. Or, if you’re looking for a more contemporary option, peg boards and hanging racks are a great option too.

What are your tips for parents-to-be who are creating a nursery for the first time?

Assess the size of your room –

If you have a larger room you may choose to have a three-piece furniture set with a cot bed, wardrobe and dresser, but if the room is smaller, go for a two-piece set instead. The last thing you want is for the room to become cluttered, so make sure you measure and tape everything out in your room before making the purchase.

Decide on a theme –

Whether you go bold with colour clashes or soft with a neutral palette, there’s lots of themes you can tailor to your liking. Choose lighter colours for a more open and airy feeling or go dark on your walls and light in your furniture to make the set really stand out.

Choose your furniture –

Our range of beautifully crafted nursery furniture includes a variety of styles, from traditional curves to bold designs. Pick a range that will best suit your space and theme, and don’t forget all Silver Cross cot beds can be converted to a toddler bed when your little one gets older – making them a practical sleep solution for years to come.

Add your accessories –

Finally, once the room is painted, the flooring is down and your furniture is built, it’s time to choose those finishing touches – which in my opinion, are the best part of styling a room! A large rug, wicker baskets, storage crates and throws are some of my favourite ways to accessorise, as well as knitted toys and wall art. And although it’s tempting to buy it all, remember, the more you have in the room, the more there is to tidy up!
