Breez: Behind the design

By Geri Ross

What inspires the fabrics that give the Silver Cross Breez pushchair its unmistakably elegant look? The Edit chats to Senior Fabric Designer Geri, whose expertise and creative mind brought Breez’s signature look to life.

What was the creative starting point for the Breez fabric collection?

As a parent myself, it was really important to me that Breez struck the right balance between being intuitive and purposeful, while also feeling like a pushchair parents would be genuinely proud to use every day.

That philosophy shaped every decision in the design process. Every detail needed to feel considered, coherent and meaningful - not just functional.

Can you talk us through any new or innovative materials used on Breez?

My personal favourite material on Breez is the organic cotton used on the seat liner. This supersoft knit is naturally breathable and highly moistureabsorbent, helping to regulate your child’s temperature and keep them comfortable on longer strolls in any season.

As a natural fibre, organic cotton is also hypoallergenic, offering a gentle, irritationfree surface that’s ideal for sensitive skin.

How do you ensure the fabrics deliver the right balance of softness, durability and breathability?

Breez fabrics are designed to be lightweight, refined and purposefully crafted to feel considered in every detail. The primary material on Breez reflects that approach: a thoughtfully engineered woven fabric that supports daily use while contributing to the clean, modern aesthetic of the product.

The versatile seat liner uses reversible fabrics, giving you two thoughtfully designed options in one. One side offers a supersoft, cosy feel for everyday comfort, while the other provides a more hardwearing, easyclean surface that’s ideal for muddy walks and messier adventures.

Pushchair fabrics go through a lot of wear. How do you guarantee long-term performance?

All our fabrics are designed and selected by our inhouse team of specialists, who bring both design intuition and expert material knowledge to every decision.

Each fabric is put through a rigorous development and testing process to ensure its performance, durability, and to meet the exceptionally high standards we set for every product.

How do the fabrics resist stains, spills, and the general messiness of family life?

All our outer fabrics are finished with a durable waterresistant coating, adding an extra layer of protection against unexpected spills and wet weather. The Breez seat fabrics are designed with everyday practicality in mind. They’re easy to remove and can be machine washed, giving parents confidence that any accidents can be dealt with without fuss.

The detailing on the Breez is really considered. Can you talk about the trims, or finishing touches?

At Silver Cross we have an obsession for detail, and Breez is no exception. From the thread specification to the zippuller design to the carefully chosen fabrics, every element is considered, refined and executed to the highest standard.

That level of attention was especially important in the development of Breez, where the goal was to create a pushchair that is functional, intuitive and genuinely beautiful - something that makes parents’ lives easier while looking effortlessly stylish.

Each design feature has been designed as part of a cohesive whole, with every detail working together to elevate the everyday experience of using Breez.

What small fabric details do you think parents will appreciate most, but might not notice immediately?

My favourite feature on Breez is the builtin seat ventilation. Positioned on the back of the seat, the mesh panel sits discreetly hidden until the moment it’s needed.

The ventilation can be revealed in one smooth motion - unzip the panel and tuck the flap into the discreet pocket at the base of the seat, creating an open airflow channel behind the child, helping to regulate temperature naturally and prevent heat buildup on warmer days.

It’s a small, designled intervention that makes a big difference to comfort, especially on longer strolls or during summer months.

Are there any fabric technologies or trends you're excited to explore in future Silver Cross collections?

We’re always looking ahead to the future, exploring emerging technologies, and materials that can elevate our products.

Earlier this year, our fabric team spent time at Première Vision in Paris, one of the world’s leading showcases for textile innovation, this is one of many invaluable sources of inspiration for us that help shape our collections.
